Upon completion of training, Dr. Garrison opened his private practice on Bay Area Boulevard in 1979. His goal was and always has been to provide the highest quality foot care available to his patients. He is well known and respected throughout the state of Texas by his fellow colleagues and early in his career was recognized by the Texas Podiatric Medical Association as their "Young Practitioner of the Year" for demonstrating exceptional involvement in the profession.

Dr. Garrison has been active in both the state and local Podiatric Medical Association, holding various officess and committee chairmanships. He has also served on and chaired many local hospital committees. After serving for six years on the board of directors for the Texas Podiatric Medical Association, he resigned to accept a gubernatorial appointment to a six-year term on the Texas State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, where he also served as vice president.
