Callous Bottom of the Foot

September 16, 2001

Question:
RECENTLY I WENT TO THE DOCTORS ABOUT 2 PAINFUL CALLUSES ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FOOT. THE DOCTOR LOOKED AT IT AND WITH A SPLIT SECOND REFERRED IT AS A CALLUS. HE THEN PROCEDED TO SCRAP THE AREAS THAT WERE BOTHERING ME. IT WAS VERY PAINFUL AND TOOK VERY LONG. HEY NEVER NUMBED THE AREA OR FROZE IT, THEY JUST STARTED DIGGING. THEY SET ME UP WITH A PODIATRIST APPOINTMENT 4 WEEKS LATER. RIGHT NOW I HAVE ABOUT 2 WEEKS UNTIL MY APPOINTMENT AND THERE'S NO WAY I'LL BE ABLE TO WAIT THAT LONG. SOMETIMES IT HURTS SO BAD THAT I CAN'T EVEN STAND. I'VE HEARD ABOUT FREEZING AND CUTTING THE WART (WHICH I ASSUME IT IS) BUT UNFORTUNATELY HEARD THAT IT IS VERY PAINFUL. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DONE TO REMOVE THE WARTS BESIDES LASER. I DON'T THINK MY DOCTOR HAS THAT CAPABILITY IN HIS OFFICE. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF THIS AND THE MOST PAINLESS WAY, IF ANY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Doctor's Reply:

This may or may not be a wart. Consider using a pad on your foot to reduce the pressure. The pad should be placed behind the area not on top of it. Do not use corn or wart removers.
