Plantar Wart - Should a Child Continue with Swimming Lessons

January 16, 2002

Question:
Should my 6 year old daughter continue to attend her swimming lessons with a plantar's wart on her foot? Is she spreading it to others that way?

Doctor's Reply:

It should be OK for your daughter to continue with her swimming lessons. Just make an appointment with a podiatrist in your area and have the wart treated. Warts are contagious but not highly contagious. The CDC has never suggested isolating someone from outside activities for this problem.
