Plantars Wart Infected?

January 05, 2001

Question:
I'm not sure if this is a planters wart or what it is. i've it for awhile at least a month. but there isn't a cluster of seeds that i can see, like i read from another article. i don't know what medicine to use, and i haven't been to a doctor. it hurts constantly and there is dead skin around it. and i kinda poked around at it and im not sure if i infected or not, but it looks like it bled on the inside its kinda a dark red/brownin the middle, and whatever this is goes into my foot, not just the surface. please respond. and quickly, im worried. please help...

Doctor's Reply:
There are many different types of skin lesions that can occur on the bottom of the foot. The most common skin lesion is a callous. A callous forms in response to friction and pressure. The second most common skin lesion is a plantar wart. These are caused by a viral infection of the skin. They really don't have "seeds" but may at times have the appearance of small black dots in them. Keep the area clean and use some antibiotic ointment on it until you can get in to see a doctor. Make an appointment to see a podiatrist in your area. They will be able to identify what the lesion is and know how to treat it.
