Plantar Wart

January 30, 2001

Question:
Plantar wart. My son was diagonosed with a plantars wart several months ago. He was instructed by the physician to use the medical pads, Duofilm, and use padded cushions to keep him from applying too much pressure on that area. Weekly he was to soak his foot and use a pumice stone on the wart as the treatment went on. The area around the wart has turn white and the area in the middle is turning black. How long must this type of treatment go on? And once the wart does surface, will it just die and be able to be "scubbed off" with the pumice stone?

Doctor's Reply:
Treating a plantar wart in this fashion takes a very long time to work and may times does not work. If the wart is starting to turn black that is a good sign. It generally indicates that the wart is dyeing. Keep up the treatment. Also consider seeing a podiatrist in your area. They treat this condition on a daily basis.
