Peeling Skin on Hands and Feet

March 24, 2001

Question:
The skin on the palms of my husband's hands is peeling. He can set and pull the skin away from his palms. I have also noticed this on his feet. Could this be related? If so what is it and how can it be treated? Also, I want to ask if tanning beds are good for your skin? Can you still get skin cancer from them? And how long should you wait between visits (what if you went 3 times within a 7 day period?). Please answer these questions.

Thank you.

Doctor's Reply:
The pealing skin on the hands and feet is likely related. I have not kept up with the improvements made concerning Tanning beds. You might consider researching this further on the Internet. You should have your husband see a dermatologist in your area. While you are here ask them about tanning beds.
