Question:
I have been using the common wart acid, Compound W. It has been helpful in killing the callous that surrounds the wart but, I have been cutting away the dead skin. Today the hole in the center of the wart seemed to have a core sticking up. After grabbing it with cutical cutters, I pulled it out. The pain brought tears to my eyes and it bleed profusely. The core was hard at the surface and seemed to bulb out into a soft globe at the bottom. Is it common for planters warts to have a core, or is this something else?
Doctor's Reply:
You may have in-fact gotten the wart. Warts are due to an infection of the skin by a virus. The virus will only infect the skin and does not go into the blood stream. On the bottom of the foot the skin is thick. This can make it difficult to get rid of the wart. Warts are considered as a tumor. All tumors develop a blood supply... thus they are studied in this regard. The bleeding is normal in removing the wart. If you have further difficulties make an appointment with a podiatrist in your area.
