Problems Following Surgery for a Ganglion

April 29, 2001

Question:
Six weeks ago I had surgery to remove a ganglion from the top of my foot. (The ganglion was the result of an injury which occured approximately 6 yrs. ago.) Currently the lump has reappeared. The area near my toes is knumb. The area near the scar is painful and sensitive to the touch. I am also eperiencing cramp-like pains in my foot. There continues to be swelling in my foot. I cannot fully bend my toes as I can on my other foot. It seems the problems are worse now than before the surgery. What has gone wrong? What can be done to correct this?

Doctor's Reply:
Consult with your surgeon about possible physical therapy to reduce the swelling. The swelling may be the primary source of your problems.
